Olympia cuts again on enterprise composting, sending extra things into the dump

Believe that compostable fork or cup you bought at an Olympia business enterprise isn’t visiting the landfill? Re-evaluate.

Corporations which have organic wate hauled absent because of the city of Olympia have been told this spring that commencing June one, they might not set paper baggage and plates, food-soiled cardboard, waxy cardboard and paper, compostable bags, cups, plates, utensils, straws and other plastics into their organics bin.

"It’s now stepping into the trash,” claimed Jim Unzicker at Batdorf & Bronson Coffee Roasters, which uses compostable forks, cups along with other items. "There are companies that make a conscientious effort to buy and use these products. It’s a disappointment to be outlived by your coffee cup.”

Olympia takes residential and commercial natural and organic waste into the county’s Waste and Recovery Center in Hawks prairie. From there, it goes to Silver Springs Organics in Rainier, a commercial composting facility owned by Waste Connections.

That facility is designed to turn yard waste, food stuff scraps, wood and farm waste into compost in 45 days. It is then sold to a wholesaler.

But most compostable plastics don’t break down that fast, mentioned Silver Springs site manager Samantha Fleischner.

"The way I always explain it is, ‘Are you willing to have 40 percent of a fork left over in your garden soil blend?’” Fleischner stated.

"I think it’s been difficult from both the customer’s standpoint and the city’s standpoint to make this change because it was rather short notice,” stated Ron Jones, senior waste reduction specialist for town of Olympia. "Some customers are upset - they invested in a program, and we invested in a philosophy of maximizing diversions and a zero waste philosophy too.”

The change was only for commercial customers. Jones claimed residential organic and natural loads are mostly yard waste and food scraps, but on the commercial side there was much more cardboard and compostable bags.

Olympia had a lot more than 170 commercial customers using its organics hauling service. Since the change, 23 have canceled.

One of them is Old School pizzeria on Franklin Street downtown. Owner Kenny pugh estimates 90 percent of the restaurant’s waste is pizza boxes and paper plates.

"It’s a bummer,” stated pugh, who is now looking for somewhere else to compost the boxes. "I try to throw absent as little as possible.”

Batdorf & Bronson was able to significantly reduce its trash output by recycling and composting far more items, reported Unzicker, the company’s maintenance engineer. Over the years, its roasting facility and tasting room at 200 Market St. went from filling a two-yard dumpster to a 35-gallon trash can.

Unzicker is now looking at likely again into the dumpster.

Don't let the evidence slip thro...

This night shift was very unstable. Just after a patient with heart failure, a patient with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation started crying, palpitations, and chest tightness. The doctor who took my shift today happens to be an ECG machines chaperone. I asked him to give me an EKG to see if the atrial fibrillation had returned. The first time I saw it, I was able to look at it. The heart rate was slightly faster, about 120-130 beats/min, but the P waves in each lead were not visible. Is this a sinus heart rate or frequent atrial fibrillation?

The rhythm of the heart is sometimes relatively uniform in frequent atrial fibrillation, and it is not always possible to determine whether the rhythm system is performing a rule to determine sinus rhythm or atrial fibrillation rhythm. It seems unlikely that this ECG P-wave can be easily distinguished from sinus rhythm or atrial fibrillation rhythm, which in turn involves the choice of the next analysis and processing technique.

This time, we tried a new wire connection method, the Fontaine wire connection method, in which the red wire is placed at the sternal stalk, the yellow wire is placed under the saber, the green wire is placed at v4 of the thoracic wire, and the i, ii, and iii wires are recorded by the ECG machine, i.e., the fii and fiii wires. The p-wave amplitude recorded by this method is higher than that of conventional ECG, especially in five leads.

After tracing with the Fontaine leads, the patient was found to have significant P waves and a clear correspondence between P waves and QRS waves, and was therefore considered to be in sinus rhythm. In other words, the patient did not have atrial fibrillation, but only a rapid heartbeat due to stress during the resuscitation of heart failure, and consciously experienced palpitations and chest tightness. The mystery is solved. We did not intervene with specialized drugs and gave the patient psychological comfort. The patient gradually calmed down and his heart rate returned to normal.

Thoughts and Experiences

There are many problems that require us in China to be both ECG readers and ECG collectors, and we need to fully develop this competitive advantage of our students. Sometimes arrhythmias are fleeting, and rather than analyzing and guessing afterwards, it is better to use some special tracing skills to capture these traces during the examination.

A clear P-wave display is very important for arrhythmia analysis.

Interestingly, when using the Fontaine conduction method, I have found that single-lead ECG machines have difficulty tracing patterns, whereas 12-lead simultaneous ECG machines are much easier, probably due to the automatic baseline correction feature.

Smart classroom tablet charging ...

Educational technology equipment is a necessary condition for teaching and educating people, an important theoretical basis for realizing the modernization of education in China, a booster and an important support condition for realizing the laptop charging cart for schools modernization of education in society, an important material and cultural carrier, an important cornerstone and a booster for cultivating and improving students' ability to carry out innovative entrepreneurial spirit and practical activities, and promoting the overall healthy development of students' moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic and physical fitness.

Speaking of smart classrooms, there are also tablet computers. As the carrier of the hardware, tablet computers are increasingly valued for their ease of operation and ease of use. With the development of intelligent classrooms, tablet computers will gradually occupy an important position in the teaching equipment.

Charging cart with fully enclosed anti-theft structure, safe storage, can meet the 10.1 inches below the tablet charging, both sides of the cabinet for injection molding abs mold, leaving a number of airflow holes, natural heat dissipation, set leakage protection, overload protection, time control management, timing power supply as a whole, providing a variety of charging management mode (time sequence, time sequence, timing, etc.).
